In March 2022, the South Salt Lake City Council dissolved the citizen review board overseeing compensation increases for the Mayor and Council Members.
Right away, the City Council then voted to give themselves and the Mayor salary raises of 40% and 60%, respectively.
In June 2022, the City Council approved the Mayor's 2023 budget, which increased its size by 41% in one year, and funded it via higher property taxes and new fees.
All residents of South Salt Lake will now feel the cost of this new budget, either directly through higher property tax bills or through higher rents.
In July 2022, the City Council voted to repeal the city's anti-nepotism ordinance. This was a law enacted in 2016 after it was reported the current Mayor had five relatives working for the city in full and part-time positions.
It's time to take a stand!
In the wake of these egregious abuses of power, South Salt Lake neighbors are fighting back.
We will hold the government of the city of South Salt Lake accountable for their mismanagement and self-dealing and put our city back on the path to prosperity!
